In a major setback, Telangana Chief Minister's idea to develop world class 'Film and Entertainment City', tentatively known as Cinema City, at Rachakonda Hills has come to a grinding halt. The proposal came to a standstill as the Telangana government is finding it highly difficult to acquire the necessary lands at the foothills. The land survey took up by revenue officials revealed startling revelations pushing KCR's brainchild initiative into doldrums.
It may be recalled that KCR did an aerial survey in December last year and proudly announced to improve the Film City, Sports City, Entertainment City and Education City in and around Rachakonda Hills area. Government then stated that nearly 30,000 acres of government land was available at the hill area sharing the boundary with Rangareddy and Nalgonda districts. KCR had instructed Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) to develop basic infrastructure facilities including four-lane road from Malkapur village of Choutuppal Mandal to Rachakonda area and another four-lane connecting Ibrahimpatnam with NH-65 and Nagarjunasagar-Hyderabad road.
But all these plans have hit roadblock as the official records produced by the collectors of Ranagreddy and Nalgonda state that there are several hurdles in acquiring the lands. As per records, Rachakonda Hills contribute to only 20,000 acres of which 14,000 acres is in Narayanpur, 4,000 acres in Choutuppal mandal and 2000 acres in Manchal mandal of Rangareddy district. Although government identified 30,000 acres initially, it later realised that 50 per cent of it was not in direct possession with government. Another 13000 acres have already been allotted to Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) at the hill area to establish firing range and the land cannot be resumed as the Defence Ministry already took possession of the land and even applied for clearance from the Union Ministry of Forests.
KCR, who learnt the hurdles, said to have instructed revenue officials to re look into the possibilities of resuming the land accorded to BDL and the ownership of remaining lands. With this, the proposal of Telangana's Cinema City which was supposed to be developed on par with Hollywood is said to be put in cold storage at least for time-being.
